How to import files as PDFs

You can import PDF, .docx or .pptx files into Nebo as PDFs. Whether it's directly from the app or form another location such a different app or a folder on your device, Nebo provides a seamless import process. Here are the key points to remember:

  • Nebo supports the import of a single PDF at a time. Importing multiples PDF's or batch PDF's simultaneously is not currently supported.
  • ⚠️ Password-protected PDFs cannot be imported into Nebo at the current time.
  • ℹ️ Nebo users on iPad and Android: In the free version of Nebo, an imported PDF file will count as one page, regardless of its actual number of pages it contains.

To import a PDF directly from Nebo:

  1. Open the notebook where you want to import the PDF.
  2. Tap "Add ➕" or  in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Select "Import as PDF..." from the menu.
  4. Browse your device and choose the PDF file you want to import.
  5. The PDF will be imported and displayed as a thumbnail alongside the other pages in the notebook.

To import a PDF into Nebo from another location:

  1. Access the PDF, .docx or .pptx file you want to import via a third-party app or a folder on your device.
  2. Touch and hold the file thumbnail to display your device's Share menu.
  3. Select Share or Open with to display a list of apps.

  6. Select Import.
The PDF will be imported and displayed as a thumbnail alongside the other pages in the notebook.

Understanding the Import Process in Nebo

In Nebo, importing PDFs rather that directly opening them from your file manager is intentional to maintain a smooth organized workflow for users. Here’s why:

  1. Clear Separation Between Original and Annotated PDFs:

    • When you import a PDF into Nebo, a new copy is created within the app's library. This imported copy is where you can annotate and work on the file, ensuring the original PDF remains unchanged in your file manager.
  2. Avoiding Confusion with File Versions:

    • Directly opening and annotating a PDF from the file manager might seem convenient, but it can lead to confusion. The imported file in Nebo works as a .nebo file, and annotations will only be visible within Nebo until you export the file back to your file manager. This approach prevents discrepancies between versions in Nebo and the file manager.

This import process ensures that your work in Nebo is well-organized and that your original files remain safe and unaltered.

Notes:

i. PDF files cannot be imported into Notes or Documents pages directly. Instead, importing a PDF creates a new PDF file within the DMS (Docuent management system)structure.
