Using Math on Document Pages

Nebo’s Document pages are optimized for mathematical work, offering features like the Math solver and various customization options. This allows you to add equations, perform calculations, and convert handwritten math into digital text.

Note: Nebo can recognize basic math and basic math symbols within text blocks (e.g., "3 x 6"), but to solve equations, use a Math object.

Adding a Math Object to Your Document

To include equations or perform calculations, create a Math object:

  1. Open a Math Object: Double-tap anywhere on your Document page, or tap the “+” icon in the top right corner and select Math.
  2. Write and Convert Equations: Write your formula in the Math object. Double-tap within the object to convert it to digital format. If the solver is activated, it will automatically display the solution.

Guidelines and Limitations

  • Supported Symbols Only: Only use recognized math symbols and numbers in Math objects. Unsupported symbols may cause Nebo to misinterpret the equation and could slow down the page.
  • What is the Math Solver: Nebo solves equations with numeric values and one unknown variable. Equations with non-numeric unknowns or multiple variables cannot be solved.

Basic Equations

Nebo can instantly solve simple calculations:

  • Write the equation and double-tap to convert and display the result.

Complex Equations.

You can also write complex equations, like this example:

Math Solver

  • Nebo supports writing complex equations; however, it is designed to solve only equations with a single numeric unknown, such as when the unknown is represented by "?".

Apply Color

  • Color can be applied before or after conversion.
  • Select the desired elements with the lasso, then choose a color from the palette.

Customizing Your Math Object

Nebo provides several customization options to adjust Math objects for clarity and usability:

  1. Edit Colors: Before writing, select a color from the pen toolbar. Multiple colors can be used in a single Math object.
  2. Resize and Move: Tap the Math object to reveal handles for resizing. You can also drag and drop the Math object to reposition it on the page.
  3. Convert Equations: Double-tap a handwritten equation to convert it into typeset format. If the solver is active, Nebo will solve the equation automatically.

General Math Settings

To set default preferences for all Math objects:

Go to Settings in the side panel and select Math. These settings will apply to each new Math object you create.

  • Deactivate Solver: Disable the solver for typesetting without solving. Tap the Math object, then turn off Calculation in the "Math" section.
  • Approximation Mode: Choose Truncated or Rounded for results. Tap the Math object, then select the "…" icon for options.
  • Angle Units: Set angles to Degrees or Radians under the "Math" menu.

Quick Math Tips

  1. Erase Content:
Use the erase gesture to quickly remove parts of a Math object, allowing for easy corrections or adjustments.

  2. Solve Simple Calculations:
Nebo can instantly solve straightforward equations. Write your equation, then double-tap to convert it and view the solution.
